We purchased George on Labor Day weekend, 2017. In fact, we were signing papers during the solar eclipse. I don’t think we classify as Impulse Buyers, but when we see something we like, we tend to not shop any further, and this was one of those times. We love our decision.
George is a 2018 Georgetown XL made by Forest River, Model 369DS (Double Slide). It has a King size bed, 1.5 baths, Master bath double vessel sinks, porcelain fixtures (no plastic), fold-down bunk over the Captain Chairs, 2 indoor and 1 outdoor TVs, plus much more.

We consider ourselves Travelers, and not so much as Campers (we don’t stay in any one spot for long). We’re not full-timers and we normally travel with a compressed schedule (averaging about 2 weeks per trip). Because of this, we find ourselves traveling many miles, taking in as much experience as possible before needing to return home. We find ourselves behind the wheel a lot.
We made several upgrades to the drivability of the RV…
We installed the Blue Ox TruCenter Steering Control
This helped to eliminate the “floating” feeling while driving, in addition to helping you stay in the lane when there’s a buffeting crosswind, uneven pavement, or in the event of a blowout. The TruCenter Steering Control has a push-button activation – just steer into the wind or the slope of the road, push and hold the button and let it go, the wheel will then center itself reducing Driver’s fatigue.
We installed SumoSprings
SumoSprings are like airless air bags. The material reminds me of the thick rubbery wrestling mats. The rocking, swaying and porpoising was tremendously reduced. Prior to the install, reaching for your phone or drink was a chore. After the install, the RV performed much more like a car; very little movement in the wheel which makes one handed driving easy.
Reprograming the Ford V-10 Engine with the 5 Star Tuning X4
During our first trip to Ohio, we struggled getting up the hills in PA. We were not towing, and with a full petal, I don’t think we maintained a speed above 30 MPH. Knowing that we had an upcoming trip that would take us into the Ozarks, I had to do something. I applied the RV tune configuration using the 5 Star Tuning system. I was able to tow our Jeep Wrangler up steep mountains while maintaining a speed around 50 MPH – what a difference. In addition, the downshifting (engine braking) utilized every available gear, which saved our brakes while making those long descents down the mountains.
In the future, I may install front and back sway bars, however, the SumoSprings have worked so well, I can’t justify the need for the additional expense at this time.
If we perform any additional upgrades, I’ll post them here.
